Senior opposite hitter Ali Daley (Grass Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) of the UCLA women's volleyball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 24-30.
Daley led the Bruins in kills in both matches last week, helping 10th-ranked UCLA to a four-set victory over #23 Pepperdine on Tuesday and a three-set sweep of cross-town rival #11 USC on Friday. She averaged 5.00 kills per set and 3.14 digs per set in the two wins.
Daley began the week with a 20-kill effort against the Waves on Tuesday. The 20 kills were a season high for the senior and the third time she has produced at least 20 kills as a Bruin. She fell just short of a double-double, adding nine digs. Daley took 65 swings, just one off a career high.
On Friday against the Trojans, Daley again averaged 5.00 kps, posting 15 kills and 13 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. The team leader in attacks at 9.79 per set hit at a .314 hitting percentage, her best total since Oct. 24. In both wins last week, the senior had the match-clinching kill to cap off a Bruin victory. Against USC, the Bruins scored the final seven points to turn a 24-19 deficit into a 26-24 triumph. During the final run, Daley had a hand in five of the points, recording four kills and a block assist.
Daley moved into the team lead in kills per set at 3.08 and is also second in digs per set at 2.91.
This is Daley's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and third of her career.
