UCLA basketball player Mustafa Abdul-Hamid (St. Louis, MO) and volleyball player Kaitlin Sather (Santa Rosa, CA) were named as 2009-10 Pacific-10 Tom Hansen Conference Medal winners. A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
Abdul-Hamid earned first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors and was on the Director's Honor Roll every quarter he has been on the UCLA campus. This season, he scored his career-high of 10 points against Pepperdine and hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer to upset defending Pac-10 champion Washington.
Sather was an honorable mention All-American in 2009 and also earned first-team All-Region, All-Pac-10 and Pac-10 All-Academic honors. She became just the 12th player in UCLA history to post 1,000 kills and digs for her career, and she finished her career ranked 11th on the Bruins' all-time kills list. During her senior season, she paced the Bruins in double-doubles with 17 and was second with 2.86 kills and 3.05 digs per set. In Pac-10 play, she led the squad with 3.15 kps. Sather had a team-best 22 double-figure kills contests, finishing her career with 1,501 kills. She also had 22 double-figure digs contests.
