Tatum Souza and Kimmie Conner stand in eighth and 10th-place, respectively, after day one of the 2011 Pac-10 Heptathlon Championships in Tucson, AZ. Souza is eighth with a four-event score of 3025 points, while Conner is 10th with a total of 2830 points.
Souza was eighth in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.47 (913 points). In the high jump and shot put the freshmen tallied two lifetime-best marks. She was eighth in the high with a clearance of 5-00.50 for 666 points and second in the shot with a throw of 40-9.50 (690 points). In the 200m, she was 11th overall in a time of 26.48 (756 points).
Conner recorded lifetime-bests in three events on Friday. She was ninth in the 100m hurdles with a new PR of 14.65 (888 points), She then cleared a lifetime-best of 5-1.75 in the high jump for the seventh-best mark of the day (701 points). In the shot put, she was sixth with a PR throw of 33-5.25 (542 points). Conner ended the day with the 12th-fastest time in the 200m (27.16) to pick up 699 points. Her first day score of 2830 points was a season-best.
Competition concludes on Saturday with the final three events of the heptathlon - the long jump, javelin and 800m.
