The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team found itself in second place for the first time this season at the SEC/Pac-12 Challenge in Knoxville, TN.
The Bruins posted an uncharacteristic nine-over par score of 297 at the Holston Hills Golf Club and trailed Alabama (578, -3) by five shots after the second round on Saturday. Auburn was third at 582 (+6), followed by Tennessee at 583 (+7) and fifth-place Vanderbilt at 586 (+10).
No UCLA player beat or matched par on Saturday. UCLA's best score was a one-over par 73, posted by freshman Erynne Lee. Lee and senior Stephanie Kono were tied for sixth place at one-under par 143. Kono posted a score of 74 (+2) -- her first round over par this season. Juniors Lee Lopez and Tiffany Lua were tied for 20th at two-over par 146. Both players carded scores of 75 (+3). Junior Ani Gulugian was tied for 52nd at 151 (+7) following a round of 77 (+5)
Tennessee's Nathalie Mansson held the 36-hole lead at five-under par 139 following a 67 in the second round.
