The second-ranked UCLA men's water polo team defeated Cal Baptist, 15-7, on Saturday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Center in the seventh game of the two-day UCLA Invitational.
The Bruins raced out to a 5-0 lead and led 8-3 after one period. Reynolds scored all three of his goals in the opening quarter. The Bruins extended their lead to 10-3 after a power play goal by redshirt freshman Mario Cardenas with 4:01 left in the second period. But Cal Baptist (0-2) ended the second quarter with back-to-back goals to trim the Bruins' lead to 10-5 at the break.
The Bruins' defense then went to work as the Lancers posted a bagel on the scoreboard in the third period. Freshman Danny McClintick, Wendt and senior Bret Lathrope all picked up goals for UCLA to push the lead to 13-5 after three.
The Lancers battled to a 2-2 draw in the fourth period, ending the scoring at 15-7. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephen White was stellar in goal in the fourth period, picking up eight saves in the final quarter to end the game with 11 stops in the cage. Austen Ramer had a solid outing for Cal Baptist, registering nine saves.
