The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team climbed into third place after the second round of the Turtle Bay Collegiate Invitational on Oahu's North Shore Tuesday.
The Bruins posted a team score of 289 (+1) in the second round and had a 36-hole total of 581 (+5), 10 shots behind UC Davis, which led the field at 571 (-5). Cal was second at 577 (+1) and San Jose State was fifth at 585 (+9). The Bruins were tied with USC.
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore All-American Stephanie Kono was tied for second place at 138 (-6) after firing a five-under par score of 67 on Tuesday. Kono, a Honolulu native, signed for five birdies and trailed the leader by a stroke. Freshman Tiffany Lua was tied for ninth at 144 (E) after posting a score of 74 (+2). Junior All-American Glory Yang was tied for 15th at 146 (+2) following her score of 73 (+1). Sophomore Brianna Do was tied for 52nd at 154 (+10) after carding a 75 (+3) and fourth-year junior Lalita Boonnoppornkul was tied for 65th place at 156 (+12) after a second straight score of 78 (+6). Playing as an unattached competitor, freshman Stacy Kim posted a score of 77 (+5) and was tied for 57th at 155 (+11).
Demi Runas of UC Davis posted a 69 (-3) on Tuesday and continued to lead the field at 137 (-7).

In other news, UCLA alumna Tiffany Joh took the 36-hole lead at the Duramed Futures Tour Q-School Tournament Tuesday in WinterHaven, Fla.
Joh fired rounds of 67-69--136 (-8) and held a two-stroke lead with three rounds to play.
