Claire Rethmeier scored the first team points for the women's track and field team at the Cal/Nevada Championships on Friday as the junior won the 5000m in a time of 17:12.02.
Lauren Jirges ran a lifetime-best of 4:40.33 in the 1500m to advance to tomorrow's final as she won her heat and had the third-fastest time of the day. Teammate Allison Hall finished second to Jirges in heat two, and fourth overall, running 4:40.40 to advance to Saturday's final.
In the 800m, three Bruins advanced to the finals on Saturday as Allison Hall led the way with the third-fastest time of the day, 2:13.44. Jirges advanced after posting the seventh-best time of the day, 2:15.11, which is also a lifetime-best mark. Gabrielle Bournes rounded out the trio heading to finals as she ran the eighth-fastest time of the day, with a season-best run of 2:15.24.
Shantae McKinney moves on the finals in the 400m (56.27) after posting the third-fastest time of the day (2nd in heat 1).
Renee Williams will run in the 100m final on Saturday after running the eighth-fastest time of the day, 12.33.
In field event action, three high jumpers and three pole vaulters advanced to the finals after clearing automatic heights. In the high, Maryann Wee, Kathleen Mahony and Allison Miller cleared 5-5 to automatically move on. In the vault, Ingrid Kantola, Jacqueline Nguyen and Lindsay Regan each cleared 11-11.75 to move on.
In the triple jump, Nicole Duhart posted a season-best 39-2.50 for the third-best mark of the day.
Kamaiya Warren had the best shot put mark of the day, 48-2, to advance to the finals on Saturday. She also advances to Saturday's final in the discus after finishing fifth overall with a throw of 155-0.
Tara Ross posted a mark of 141-8 for the third-best mark of the day, which moves her into the finals on Saturday.
Competition continues on Saturday with finals for all of the events.
Stanford Invitational Results
At the Stanford Invitational, Ciara Viehweg finished 15th in section two of the steeplechase, running 11:07.83.
