Freshman Robin Anderson (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional HS) of the UCLA women's tennis team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 13-19.
Anderson was named the Most Outstanding Player at the ITA National Team Indoors after helping UCLA to the school's first-ever title at the event. She clinched the team's 4-0 upset over No. 3 Duke last Monday, downing seventh-ranked Beatrice Capra, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles position. The win avenged a three-set loss to Capra in the consolation final at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November. Anderson posted yet another top 20 victory against No. 5 Baylor on Saturday, this time beating No. 17 Diana Nakic, 6-2, 6-2, in UCLA's 4-0 win in Waco, Texas. With her two wins on the week, Anderson improved to 8-0 in dual matches and 19-5 overall on the season. She moved up to No. 6 in this week's ITA Singles Rankings. Anderson has also been instrumental in helping UCLA to its best start in 14 years. The last time the Bruins started a season 10-0 was in 1998.
This is Anderson's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
