TUCSON, Ariz. - UCLA pitchers David Berg and Grant Watson have captured Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors, as announced Wednesday by Collegiate Baseball.

Berg, a right-handed reliever, has gone 5-3 with a 1.71 ERA in a Pac-12 record-setting 45 appearances, all in relief. Berg has tallied 54 strikeouts and 16 walks in 63.1 innings and leads all Pac-12 pitchers with a 1.71 ERA and .176 batting average.

Watson, who has excelled as a starting pitcher and reliever, has gone 9-2 with a 4.41 ERA in 33 games (15 starts). The left-hander from Bakersfield, Calif., has totaled 44 strikeouts and 31 walks in 85.2 innings, the third-highest total on UCLA's pitching staff.

Berg has already established the Pac-12 and school record for single-season appearances (45). The resident of Covina, Calif., stands six appearances shy of tying the NCAA's single-season record of 51, set by Connor Falkenbach (Florida) in 2005. Berg's 45 appearances is tied for seventh on the single-season NCAA record list.

UCLA opens the NCAA Super Regionals against TCU on Friday, June 8. Game time is 6 p.m. The NCAA Super Regionals follows a best-of-three format, with the winning team set to advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., which takes place from June 15-26.
