HONOLULU, Hawaii - The No. 1-ranked UCLA women's water polo team used six second-half goals to break a 3-3 deadlock and defeat No. 4-ranked Hawai'i, 9-5, in an MPSF match Friday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Senior Courtney Mathewson led the visiting Bruins (22-0, 8-0 MPSF) with three goals. Senior Jillian Kraus and junior Tanya Gandy each recorded two goals.

Hawai'i junior Angela Turnbull led the Rainbow Wahine (13-5, 6-2 MPSF) with three goals, while junior Kelly Mason and Leonie Van Der Molen each added one goal.

UCLA raced to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, before Hawai'i answered with two goals before the end of the first period. In the second quarter, both teams traded one goal and entered halftime with a 3-3 tie.
