SAN PEDRO - The No. 12 UCLA women's rowing team fell to No. 10 USC, 4-3, in the crosstown rivals' annual dual regatta on Saturday morning at the Port of Los Angeles.
USC's first varsity eight defeated UCLA's boat, while the Bruins' second varsity raced ahead of USC's second eight. UCLA posted a time of 6:53.26 to USC's 7:00.92 in the second varsity. USC's first eight posted a time of 6:37.37 while UCLA clocked in at 6:47.47.
UCLA's varsity four was narrowly edged by USC. The Bruins' varsity four posted a time of 7:39.01 while USC crossed the finish line in 7:37.92.
In the novice eight race, UCLA finished more than three second ahead of the Women of Troy. The Bruins' novice eight clocked in at 7:19.00, while USC posted a time of 7:22.40.
Point scoring for the annual dual meet awards three points to the winning varsity eight and one point for each of the novice eight, varsity four races and second varsity race.
UCLA returns to action the weekend of May 15-16 at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships that Saturday before rowing in the season-culminating Pac-10 Championships on Sunday.
