The UCLA men's golf Blue Team was in first place after 36 holes of the Cal State Bakersfield Spring Invitational, hosted by Seven Oaks CC in Bakersfield Monday.
The Bruins broke the single round tournament record in the morning with a team score of 271 (-18). Their afternoon score of 280 (-8) gave them a two-round total of 551 (-25), 18 shots in front of second place CS Bakersfield. Cal State San Bernardino was third at 572 (-4), followed by UC San Diego at 573 (-3). Tied for fifth place were Grand Canyon and Sonoma State at 574 (-2).
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Lucas Lee fired rounds of 65-67--132 (-12) and was the second round leader. Junior Craig Leslie posted rounds of 65-72--137 (-7) and was in fifth place. Freshman Charlie Harris was tied for ninth at 140 (-4) after consecutive 70s, and senior Chris Heintz was tied for 12th at 142 (-2) after posting a pair of 71s. Freshman Jason Kang was tied for 28th at 145 (+1) after carding rounds of 73-72. Junior Brandon Christianson, playing as an individual, was tied for 52nd at 149 (+5) after rounds of 73-76.
Final round action continues Tuesday.
