Freshman Patrick Cantlay (Los Alamitos, CA/Servite HS) of the UCLA men's golf team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for May 31-June 5.
Cantlay finished in second place at the NCAA Championships, shooting four under par with scores of 72-69-71-212, and helping the Bruins record the top team score in stroke play. The 2011 Jack Nicklaus Award winner earned first-team All-America honors and was named the National Freshman of the Year by the GCAA. Cantlay set a UCLA record with a 70.5 scoring average. He also played 37 rounds in 30-under par, another UCLA record, and led the team in rounds under par (20), rounds under 70 (17) and Top 10 finishes (nine). He qualified for the 2011 U.S. Open next week and is one of just 10 amateurs worldwide to advance through Sectional Qualifying.
This is Cantlay's second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
