ASU led UCLA, 2-1, after the first quarter as Anna Kertes found the back of the cage with 32 seconds left in the period.

Brightwell put Arizona State ahead, 3-1, at the start of the second quarter. UCLA drew another penalty, and Clark stepped up and converted the penalty shot, slicing ASU's lead to 3-2 at the 7:01 mark in the second quarter.

Back-to-back goals from Mariam Salloum and Brightwell pushed ASU's cushion to 5-2 with 5:09 left before halftime. UCLA responded with goals from Becca Dorst and Hannah Sebenaler to reduce the Sun Devils' lead to 5-4 by intermission.
