LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's rowing program hosts its final dual race of the season this Saturday, facing crosstown rival USC in Marina del Rey, Calif. The two schools will begin the morning's events with a novice eight race, followed by the varsity four and two varsity eights.
Saturday's action in Marina del Rey kicks off at 7:15 a.m. with the novice eight race. The varsity four race begins at 7:30 a.m. and the second varsity eights will compete at 7:45 a.m. The two school's varsity eight crews will conclude the morning's competition at 8:00 a.m.
UCLA's race against USC marks the Bruins' final race of the season before traveling to Rancho Cordova, Calif., in two weeks for the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships (May 16) and the season-culminating Pac-10 Championships (May 17).
The winning school this Saturday will receive five points in the annual Lexus Gauntlet Challenge, a multi-sport competition between UCLA and USC. The rowing competition uses its own point system to determine the winner of the five Lexus Gauntlet points awarded to women's rowing. The first varsity eight is worth three points, the second eight gains two points and the varsity four and novice eight are each worth one point. The school that earns more points in that morning's regatta collects all five Lexus Gauntlet Challenge points.
