LOS ANGELES - UCLA, which opens exhibition play tonight against Azusa Pacific at 7:30 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion, picked up a No. 2 preseason ranking in today's Associated Press poll.
The Bruins earned 1,710 points, just behind No. 1 North Carolina with 1,728 points. The Bruins garnered 24 first-place votes while the Tarheels had 29. Third-ranked Memphis has 18 first-place votes and 1,680 points.
Kansas is ranked fourth with 1,568 points. Georgetown rounds out the top five with 1,504 points and received the lone remaining first-place vote.
Last week, UCLA learned it ranked second in the preseason ESPN/USA Today poll, behind North Carolina, but had the most first-place votes.
A year ago, the Bruins sported a preseason ranking of No. 5 in the ESPN/USA Today poll and No. 6 in the Associated Press poll.
