UCLA sophomore punter Jeff Locke has been selected to the ESPN Academic All-District 8 football team as announced on Nov. 4. Locke's name now will be placed on the national ballot for the vote for Academic All-America honors.
Locke, who carries a 3.57 gpa in his Economics major, is on the "watch list" for the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter. He is currently second in the Pac-10 and sixth the NCAA rankings with his average of 46.13 yards per punt. Locke's current season average would rank No. 2 in school history, as would his career average of 44.52. UCLA is also fifth nationally as a team in net punting. Locke has placed 13 of his kicks inside the twenty-yard line this season. He also handles kickoffs for the Bruins and has averaged 67.9 yards on 36 attempts with 11 touchbacks.
Locke has been named to the UCLA Athletics Director's Honor Roll after five academic quarters. He was selected second-team All-Pac-10 conference last season as well as a first-team All-Pac-10 All-Academic football squad member.
The ESPN Academic All-America team for football will be announced on Nov. 23.
