SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team rebounded to win the third-place game of the SoCal Tournament with a 14-8 win over No. 5 UC Irvine. The Bruins were led by sophomore Paul Reynolds with four goals.

The Bruins improved to 15-2 on the season while UC Irvine dropped to 12-3. Both of UCLA's losses on the year have been by one goal with the Bruins facing large early deficits.

That was not the case against the Anteaters, which beat No. 4 California earlier in the SoCal Tournament. The Bruins jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first period and extended it to 8-5 at halftime.

Juniors Paul Pickell and Lucas Reynolds as well as senior Josh Samuels, scored two goals apiece against UCI. UCLA also received one goal each from juniors Aimone Barabino and Chris Wendt, freshman Anthony Daboub and sophomore Christopher Meinhold.

UCLA won every period, winning the third quarter 4-2 to push the lead to 12-7 heading into the final stanza. The Bruins won the fourth 2-1 to end the scoring at 14-8.

Senior Matt Rapacz played the entire game in goal for UCLA, registering 15 saves. Junior Alex Kazmier also recorded 15 stops for UC Irvine.

The Bruins return to the pool on Oct. 6 when they open MPSF play at California. The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks at 12:30 p.m.
