LOS ANGELES - Senior Stacy Lindstrom scored one of the biggest goals of her career Sunday, as her header in overtime gave the fourth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over cross-town rival USC at McAlister Field. The win, UCLA's eighth in a row in the series, improves the Bruins' record to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-10. With the loss, the Women of Troy drop to 7-3-3 overall and 0-1-2 in the conference.

Lindstrom's golden goal came exactly 98 minutes into the match as she managed to get her head on a Bristyn Davis cross sent in from the right side. Her header bounced off the underside of the crossbar and into the goal, giving the Bruins their third-straight overtime victory over USC

"Stacy was just unbelievable," said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. "She was in the back line, she was in the font line, and just played her heart out. I think it was so fitting for her and Bristyn to connect on the game winner because they've never lost to the Trojans and they weren't going to let it happen today."

Getting her first taste of the rivalry, Bruin freshman Lauren Cheney put UCLA up 1-0 when she put away a cross from Danesha Adams in the 69th minute. USC, however, struck back in the 78th minute on a goal by Ashley Nick, eventually sending the match into overtime and setting up Lindstrom's heroics.

"Aside from this being a rivalry match, I'm just really pleased that we came out on top today," said Ellis. "This was our first overtime match of the year and I'm thrilled at the way our players responded. We've had three tough Pac-10 matches and we're eager to hit the road and build on this momentum."

UCLA is unbeaten in its last 10 matches against USC, with the Women of Troy's last victory coming back in 1998. Ellis has never lost to USC, owning a 9-0-1 record.

UCLA, which gained five points in the Lexus Gauntlet standings, outshot USC, 18-12 on the afternoon. Bruin goalkeeper Valerie Henderson finished with four saves.

The Bruins hit the road next week, traveling to Arizona (Oct. 20) and Arizona State (Oct. 22).
