WOODLAND, Calif. - Junior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen of the top-ranked UCLA women's water polo team captured MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week honors, marking UCLA's fourth such selection by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in five weeks this season. Fullen registered 40 saves in the Bruins' four wins at the UC Irvine Invitational last weekend.
Fullen helped the undefeated Bruins (17-0) claim the UC Irvine Invitational championship, tallying a career-high 15 saves in UCLA's 8-7 win over No. 2 Stanford in sudden-victory overtime. The San Clemente, Calif., native tallied five of her 15 saves in the overtime session of the title match.
In Sunday afternoon's 9-4 semifinal win over No. 5 California, Fullen recorded 11 stops. In two games on Saturday, the junior goalkeeper tallied 14 saves (eight versus Loyola Marymount, six against Cal State Northridge).
Senior Jillian Kraus and junior Katie Rulon have also earned the conference's weekly honors this season. Kraus captured MPSF Co-Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 11-17. Rulon twice garnered the weekly honor - for the weeks of Jan. 21-27 and Feb. 4-10.
The top-ranked UCLA women's water polo team returns to action at No. 13 UC Santa Barbara in an MPSF contest on Saturday, March 1. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
