STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 4 UCLA women's water polo team dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 1 Stanford on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins (18-5, 1-3 MPSF) received both goals from senior Megan Burmeister.
Stanford (17-0, 3-0 MPSF) extended its season-opening win streak to 17 games in the MPSF contest.
The host Cardinal were led by two goals from Annika Dries, while Pallavi Menon, Kim Krueger and Monica Coughlan each scored one goal.
Krueger and Coughlan each scored in the opening frame to hand Stanford a 2-0 cushion. Menon and Dries found the back of the cage in the second quarter to give the Cardinal a 4-0 lead by halftime.
Burmeister scored one goal in the each of the final two quarters for UCLA.
Freshman goalkeeper Sami Hill totaled seven saves in the cage for the Bruins in the first half, while junior goalkeeper Caitlin Dement was credited with four stops in the second half. Stanford goalkeeper Amber Oland tallied five saves.
UCLA returns to action with an MPSF match at San Jose State on Saturday, April 2. Game time in San Jose, Calif., is slated for 12 p.m.
