WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior Kevin Chappell has been named Pacific-10 Conference Golfer of the Month for January/February 2008.
Chappell, a Fresno, Calif. native, posted a three-round total of 15-under-par 198 to win the PING Arizona Intercollegiate by seven shots in January. His 54-hole score of 198 (67-67-64) eclipsed the 23-year old school record of 199 by Duffy Waldorf in 1985. In addition, Chappell's final round 64 tied for the second-best round in school history.
Chappell's victory was the fourth of his career and he earned Pac-10 Player of the Month honors for the second time this year. He currently is ranked third in the nation among collegiate golfers and is carrying a scoring average of 70.3 this season.
Also nominated for player of the month honors were Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State, Stephen Hale of California, Rory Hie of USC, and the Stanford duo of Sihwan Kim and Rob Grube.
