BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - The UCLA women's water polo team has been ranked No. 3, tied with crosstown rival USC, in the national Collegiate Water Polo Association's top-20 rankings, as announced Wednesday.
UCLA went 26-7 last spring, finishing third at the NCAA Tournament with a 6-5 win over USC on the final day of the season.
Stanford will open as this season's No. 1-ranked team, with California following at No. 2.
Rounding out the top six teams include San Jose State, UC Irvine, Arizona State, San Diego State, Hawai'i and Indiana, respectively. All eight MPSF teams are ranked within the top nine selections.
UCLA opens the 2012 season at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., the weekend of Jan. 21-22. Opponents and game times are to be determined.
