Bruins Pound Five Home Runs at Cal State Fullerton

Final Stats

FULLERTON, Calif. - Bruin hitters pounded out 13 hits and five home runs on Wednesday night at Cal State Fullerton en route to an 8-1 victory. Five different Bruins, including all three starting freshmen, homered in the game.

Krista Colburn started the scoring early, hitting her second leadoff home run and fourth total home run of the season. The Bruins put up three runs in the third inning with a one-out walk from Megan Langenfeld, a single from Jaisa Creps and an RBI single from Whitney Holum before freshman Julie Burney blasted her third home run of the season to give UCLA the 5-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, freshman DP Kaila Shull blasted her sixth home run of the season, clearing not only the right field fence at Anderson Family Field, but the third base bleachers and facility fence of the South Field at Cal State Fullerton with the ball landing in the right field grass on that field.

With two outs, UCLA extended its lead on the fourth home run of the season by Langenfeld, chasing reigning national Player of the Week Candice Baker from the circle. Creps immediately welcomed Brooke Weekley to the game by blasting her fourth home run of the season over the left field fence to give UCLA an 8-0 lead.

The Bruins allowed a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the eight runs of offense were plenty for UCLA starting pitcher Anjelica Selden. Selden struck out 12 batters, walking three and allowing just two hits on the day.

UCLA returns to action on Friday afternoon at 2 pm when they open Long Beach State Invitational play against Southern Utah and follow with a 6:30 pm contest against Eastern Kentucky.
