Track & Field to Compete at Mt. SAC Relays

The men's and women's track and field teams will head to Walnut and Azusa this week to compete at the Mt. SAC Relays and California Invitational as the outdoor season continues.

Dominic Giovannoni, David Thomas, Trent Perez and Tatum Souza will travel to Azusa to compete in the California Invitational where the three men will compete in the decathlon and Souza will compete in the heptathlon. Marcus Nilsson will be competing at Mt. SAC in the top section of the decathlon. The multi-events will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Members of both track teams will be competing Thursday through Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays. Turquoise Thompson will be making her 2012 debut in the 400m hurdles after running a lifetime-best in the 400m last weekend at the RJ/JJK Invite (52.73). Thompson, along with men's team members Alec Faldermeyer (hammer) and Mike Woepse (pole vault) will be competing in the elite sections on Saturday.

The Mt. SAC Relays will be the final tune-up for the Bruins before hosting USC in the annual dual meet (Apr. 29). With the post-season approaching, UCLA continues to have multiple athletes ranked in the top 25 nationally. Below is a list of athletes and their event rankings.


  • 400m - Turquoise Thompson, 9th (52.73)
  • Pole Vault - Allison Koressel, 20thT (13-5.75)
  • Hammer - Ida Storm, 5th (209-5)


  • 4x100 - 39.61 (UCLA's second leg, Karlton Rolle, is done for the year after suffering a hamstring injury at the Pepsi Invite in Oregon)
  • Pole Vault - Mike Woepse, 2nd (18-2.50)
  • Discus - Matthew Kosecki, 17th (185-1)
  • Hammer - Alec Faldermeyer, 4th (221-1)
  • Javelin - Derek Eager, 17th, 229-9
