No. 3-Seed UCLA Women's Water Polo Downs No. 4-Seed California, 8-7

HONOLULU - The No. 3-seed UCLA women's water polo team earned a third-place finish at the MPSF Tournament with an 8-7 victory over No. 4-seed California on Sunday afternoon at the University of Hawai'i's Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.

The Bruins netted two goals each from seniors Anne Belden, Tanya Gandy and Katie Rulon and sophomore Priscilla Orozco. Senior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen registered five saves in the cage for UCLA (22-6).

California (31-8) was led on offense by Emily Csikos and Camille Hewko, as each player tallied two goals.

UCLA led never trailed against the Golden Bears in Sunday's third-place match. The Bruins got on the board just 27 seconds into the match with a goal from Rulon, her first of two goals on the day. California tied the contest at the 6:15 mark with a goal from Hewko.

UCLA led 2-1 after Orozco scored with 4:59 to go in the first quarter, and California answered again with a goal from Hewko (4:26). Orozco added her second goal of the day with 2:23 to play before the Golden Bears tied the game, 3-3, at the 1:54 mark with a goal from Csikos. The Bruins secured a 4-3 lead after the first quarter after Rulon scored her second of two goals on the afternoon at the 22-second mark in the opening frame.

California held UCLA scoreless in the second quarter, scoring one goal at the 1:03 mark to tie the contest, 4-4.

The Bruins raced to a two-goal lead, 6-4, with goals from Belden and Gandy at 7:14 and 4:45, respectively, in the third quarter. California reduced UCLA's lead to 6-5 with a strike from Meghan Corso. Belden's goal at 3:39 pushed the Bruins' advantage to 7-5, before Calfiornia's Stephanie Schnugg scored with 3:10 to play in the third period, reducing UCLA's margin to 7-6.

In the final quarter, California tied the contest at 7-7 with a goal from Csikos. Gandy broke the tie, scoring the game-winning goal with 1:37 to play in the final period.
