IN SEASON OPENERS
UCLA is entering its 92nd season and is 71-20 (.780) in season openers and 57-8 (.877) in home openers (since 1945). UCLA is also 6-1 (.857) in home and season openers under head coach Ben Howland. Last year, the Bruins suffered a 68-65 setback in double overtime to CS Fullerton (Nov. 16).

SERIES VS. CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
This is just the seventh meeting between UCLA and Cal State Northridge with the Bruins leading the series 5-1. All six prior meetings have been in Pauley Pavilion with the Bruins winning the last contest, 85-67 on Dec. 7, 2008. The Bruins were led by Josh Shipp (14 points, six assists, two steals and two rebounds) and by Jrue Holiday (14 points, six steals, five boards and four assists). Darren Collison also registered 13 points and six assists for the Bruins. The Matadors were led by Tremaine Townsend (23 points, five rebounds, one block and one steal). Kenny Daniels chipped in 13 points while Rob Haynes added 10 more Northridge, which trailed 41-27 at halftime. Malcolm Lee (four points, two assists, one rebound and one steal) and Jerime Anderson (three points, two rebounds, two assists and two blocks) are the only two current Bruins that faced CSUN in 2008. UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland is 7-2 all-time against Cal State Northridge (1-0 at UCLA and 6-2 when he was the head coach at Northern Arizona, which was in the Big Sky Conference with Northridge at the time).

BRUINS' INJURY REPORT
Sophomore forward Reeves Nelson (strained right hip flexor) completed a full practice on Nov. 11 and will play in the season-opener against Cal State Northridge on Nov. 12. Freshman center Joshua Smith (sprained right thumb) started in the last exhibition game against Cal State Los Angeles (Nov. 9) and will play against the Matadors. Freshman guard Matt Carlino (concussion) was limited in practice on Nov. 11 and will be a gametime decision. Junior guard Lazeric Jones received two stitches in the mouth after he was inadvertently struck in the face at the Nov. 11 practice. He returned to practice and will be good to go against Cal State Northridge.
