Five Bruins to Compete at NCAA Indoor T&F Championship

March 5, 2012

Five Bruin track and field athletes will compete at this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championship meet (Mar. 9-10) as the field of competitors was announced on Monday afternoon.

Representing the women's team will be sophomore Ida Storm, who will be competing in the 20-lb weight throw. She broke the UCLA school record as well as the Swedish National Record at the MPSF Championships on Feb. 23 with a mark of 69-7. She ranks eighth in the NCAA this season.

Representing the men's team will be sophomores Alec Faldermeyer, Mike Woepse and Marcus Nilsson and freshman Dustin Fay. Faldermeyer will be competing in the 35-lb weight throw and currently ranks seventh in the NCAA with a top mark of 70-11.25. Woepse will be competing in the pole vault where he currently is tied for fifth in the NCAA (18-00.50). Nilsson will compete in the heptathlon. He totaled 5700 points at the MPSF Championship to win the conference crown and qualify for NCAAs. That mark ranks 14th in the NCAA this season. Fay will compete in the 5000m. He heads to NCAAs ranked 15th with a top time of 13:49.96.

Last year, Faldermeyer earned USTFCCCA first-team All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the weight throw. This will be the first indoor NCAA meet for Woepse and Nilsson. Storm earned second-team All-American honors in 2011 after finishing 11th at the NCAA meet.

The meet will be streamed live on ESPN3. For Friday's coverage, cilck here. For Saturday's broadcast, click here.
