Freshman Clay Thompson (Venice Beach, CA/Crossroads School) of the UCLA men's tennis team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
With No. 6 UCLA and No. 9 Baylor tied at 3-3 on Sunday, Thompson posted the men's tennis team's biggest win of the season thus far, taking a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(8) victory over Sergio Ramirez at No. 4 singles to give the Bruins a thrilling 4-3 road win at the Baylor Tennis Center. Thompson fought off a match point, trailing 5-6 in that final tiebreaker to keep UCLA undefeated on the season at 6-0. Thompson also played a big part in the team's 4-3 victory over UC Irvine on Thursday, as his straight-set win over Stephen Stege at No. 4 singles accounted for one of the team's four points needed to pull off the narrow win. Thompson is now 11-4 on the season and 4-0 in dual matches.
This is Thompson's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
