TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Andrea Harrison homered for the second straight game, while freshman Stephany LaRosa added an RBI single, but the 12th-ranked Bruins fell 4-2 to #5 Arizona State on Saturday at Farrington Stadium.
The Bruins fall to 25-10 overall and 2-4 in Pac-12 play, while the Sun Devils improve to 35-4 and 7-1 in league action.
For the first time in the series, the Bruins scored first. In the top of the first, Schroeder walked, and two outs later, stole second. LaRosa then singled up the middle to plate Schroeder to make it 1-0.
UCLA extended its advantage to 2-0 in the third when Harrison hit a two-out homer to right, her ninth bomb of the season.
Arizona State, which had left two on base in the second and three in the third, scored three times in the fourth. Four straight one-out singles by Amber Freeman, Talor Haro, Bailey Wigness and Katelyn Boyd scored the Sun Devils' first run. Alix Johnson then tapped a ball to second, as sophomore Talee Snow came home to force Haro for the second out. But a walk to Annie Lockwood equaled the score at two and a wild pitch with Elizabeth Caporuscio at the plate brought home Boyd to make it 3-2.
The Sun Devils added an insurance run in the sixth when Boyd hit a leadoff homer to center to make it 4-2.
The Bruins face Stanford in a three-game, midweek series at Easton Stadium, with a doubleheader on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and a single game on Wednesday at 12 p.m. Gametracker and free audio will be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates at twitter.com/uclasoftball.
