The UCLA track and field teams will travel to Nampa, Idaho this Friday and Saturday for the Boise State Team Invitational as the indoor season continues. The meet will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Teams competing include UCLA, Cal State Northridge, Utah State, Utah Valley, Eastern Oregon, College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene and the UNLV women's team.
This weekend's meet will be a homecoming for men's coach Mike Maynard who was the Broncos' head coach prior to coming to UCLA. He was also instrumental in helping Boise State build their indoor track and field facility.
Full teams will be competing for both squads as the Bruins will be looking to pick up more NCAA qualifiers. So far, the men have four provisional qualifiers - Cory Primm (800m), Kevin Craddock (60m hurdles), Casey DiCesare (pole vault) and Greg Woepse (pole vault). Primm ranks 10th in the NCAA in the 800m (1:49.38) and DiCesare ranks eighth in the vault (17-7).
The women have six provisional qualifying marks - Shannon Murakami (mile/3000m), Lindsay Rowe (60m hurdles), Danielle Watson (long jump), Tori Pena (pole vault) and Tori Anthony (pole vault). Pena is tied for 13th in the NCAA this season (13-9.25).
Thrower Darius Savage will not compete this indoor season after undergoing back surgery in January. Greg Woepse will not compete this weekend as he rehabilitates a hamstring injury. Pole vaulter Katy Viuf is also out with an injury.
Freshman Damien Thigpen will not compete for the men's team this season so he can focus on football.
