LOS ANGELES, CA -
The No. 2 ranked UCLA women's golf team earned the top seed for the NCAA Central Regional to be hosted at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, IN. The regional will take place from Thursday, May 5th to Saturday, May 7th.
The Warren Golf Course plays a par of 72 over 6,208 yards and the tournament format is 54 holes of stroke play with five players counting four scores for the team competition. There are three NCAA regional sites (East, Central and West) containing twenty-four teams and six individuals each. The low eight teams and two individuals from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will take place from Wednesday, May 18th to Saturday, May 21st at the Traditions Golf Club in College Station, TX.
There are six other consensus top-25 teams in the Central Regional along with UCLA (Duke, LSU, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Texas and Notre Dame) and two others that are ranked in the top-25 in one poll (Tulane and Stanford).
"We are very excited to be selected as the #1 seed in the Central regional at Warren golf club," Head Coach Carrie Forsyth said. "Some of our players are very familiar with the course as they hosted the 2010 WAPL event last summer, and they have expressed their feelings on the quality of the venue. It is a fair golf course and one that our team feels will be great set up for Regionals. We are very determined after our poor result at Pac 10's and have a positive outlook on our remaining post-season events. We know we will do well and are really looking forward to getting started."
The Bruins have won five regional championships in Forsyth's tenure and recorded nine consecutive podium results in regional competition. They have also earned a school record ten straight NCAA berths dating back to 2000 and won the Central Regional title in both 2008 and 2009.
