Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Freshman Bojana Todorovic had a career-high 11 kills, while junior Dicey McGraw had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs, but the 14th-ranked Bruins fell to Arizona State in three sets on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Set scores were 25-16, 25-22, 25-22.

The Bruins fall to 10-4, while the Sun Devils improve to 11-2.

Senior Kaitlin Sather had seven kills and 12 digs, sophomore Lainey Gera added 15 digs and freshman Lauren Cook posted 30 assists. The Bruins hit .131 as a team.

The Sun Devils led from start to finish in the first set, scoring seven of the first nine points. The Bruins closed to within three on a couple of occasions, but got no closer. Leading 13-9, Arizona State scored five of six to go ahead 18-10. The Sun Devils' biggest advantage was 10 at 24-14 before they won the opener 25-16. McGraw and Todorovic each had three kills in the first, as the Bruins were out-hit .417 to .273.

The second was another wire-to-wire victory for the Sun Devils, but not without some tense moments at the end of the set. Arizona State took an early 10-3 advantage and extended its lead to as many as nine at 15-6. Trailing 21-15, the Bruins scored three in a row on an ASU ball handling error, a combo block by Cook and sophomore Katie Camp and a kill by McGraw to make it 21-18.

However, Arizona State came back with three of the next four to earn set point at 24-19. The Bruins staved off three set points on back-to-back kills by Todorovic and an ASU attack error. But a UCLA error on Arizona State's fourth set point gave the home team a 25-22 victory. Todorovic added six kills in the second, while McGraw had four. Neither team hit well, with ASU holding a .111 to .087 advantage.

In the third, the Bruins had a lead for the first time in their last six sets, scoring the first four points. Sather started the set with a kill, and following a Sun Devil attack error, Sather and Camp teamed up for a block and Todorovic had a kill. UCLA still led 6-1, but a 5-0 ASU run evened things at six. The Sun Devils ran their lead to three at 11-8, but the Bruins came back with four straight to go up 12-11. McGraw had two kills, with an ASU attack error sandwiched between, while Sather also had a spike.

The Bruins still led 14-12, but four straight by the Sun Devils put the home squad up 16-14. Arizona State would not trail for the rest of the set. The Bruins tied it up at 17 and 20, but could not get the lead back, as Paige Mittelstaedt got the match-clinching kill to win it 25-22. McGraw had six kills in the third, while Sather had four. The Bruins hit just .078 in the third, while the Sun Devils swung at a .146 clip.

Sarah Reaves had 15 kills and 10 digs to pace the Sun Devils, who snapped a 13-match losing streak to the Bruins. Cat Highmark also had a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs, as Arizona State hit .217 as a team with 12 blocks.

The Bruins face #19 Arizona on Saturday at 7 p.m. Gametracker will be available on the schedule page of UCLABruins.com.
