WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.- The USTA today announced Kyle Spencer, Assistant Director of Men's Tennis at Baylor University, and Rance Brown, Assistant Head Coach of Women's Tennis at UCLA, to coach the 2008 USTA Summer Collegiate Team. Team selections will be announced in early June following the NCAA Championships.

The USTA Summer Collegiate Team is an elite training program for the top American collegiate tennis players that began in 1996 and is funded by the USTA. It is designed to provide players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months.

Brown is in his eleventh season as a member of the UCLA women's tennis coaching staff and was recently named the ITA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year, marking the third time in his career that he has earned that distinction (1999, 2000 and 2007). The 2000 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year, Brown was promoted to Assistant Head Coach effective last fall. The Bruins have made the NCAA Tournament in each of his 10 seasons as an assistant, twice reaching the final at the NCAA Team Championships. In addition to his efforts with the UCLA program, Brown leads a successful junior tennis program as Director of Tennis at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Tennis Club in Orange County. In his 20 years at the post, Brown has worked with some of the top junior boys and girls in California and more than 40 of his players have gone on to receive Division I tennis scholarships, capturing more than a dozen USTA National titles during their careers.

Spencer is finishing his second year as the Assistant Director of Men's Tennis at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Prior to coaching at Baylor, Spencer served as assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Southern California, in 2004-05 and coached the Trojans to the NCAA Final Four in 2004. Spencer has also spent time coaching on the ATP tour -- among his former pupils is Robert Kendrick, who while being coached by Spencer, jumped from No. 375 to No. 73 in the world rankings in just 10 months. In addition to his coaching experience, Spencer enjoyed a four-year career at USC from 1995-99. He and his partner George Bastl were named the 1997 ITA National Doubles Team of the Year and finished the year at No. 1 in the ITA doubles rankings. Spencer won six ATP doubles titles in his career and represented his native Great Britain in doubles with partner Barry Cowan in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

The USTA and ITA will select six boys and six girls to participate in the program. Current pros who are past participants include James Blake, Bob and Mike Bryan, Audra Cohen, Amer Delic, Laura Granville, John Isner, Jesse Levine, Todd Paul, Sam Warburg, and Jesse Witten.
