March 31, 2008

LOS ANGELES - UCLA sophomore outfielder/left-handed pitcher Justin Uribe has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left arm and will miss the remainder of the 2008 baseball season. Uribe suffered the injury pitching in the bottom of the first inning of a 6-3 loss at San Diego State on March 25.

Uribe's season-ending injury will require surgery. Uribe plans to apply to the Pacific-10 Conference for a medical hardship and regain his second season of eligibility in 2009.

"We all feel for Justin" head coach John Savage said. "He's a competitive person who will be back in a Bruin uniform in 2009. We will support him in every way and make sure his return is a successful one."

Uribe posted a 2-0 record and 1.35 ERA in 6.2 innings this season. At the plate, the Santa Ana, Calif., resident recorded a .245 batting average, collecting four doubles, five RBI and nine runs in 15 games as an outfielder. Uribe registered a .439 on-base percentage, currently the second-highest mark on the club.
