The UCLA women's basketball team wrapped up its first week of training camp in preparation for its Aug. 18-27 foreign tour of Italy, where the Bruins will play four exhibition games.
Head coach Cori Close's Bruins had their first practice day on Tuesday and have seven more practice days available to them prior to the trip. This is the third foreign tour the Bruin women have embarked on but the first in which the incoming freshmen are allowed to participate, thanks to a change in NCAA rules.
UCLA finished the 2010-11 season with a 28-5 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins return three starters in senior forward Jasmine Dixon (12.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg), junior forward Markel Walker (8.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and junior forward Atonye Nyingifa (8.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg), as well as senior guard Rebekah Gardner (7.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg). Joining the squad as freshmen are forward Kacy Swain, and guards Moriah Faulk and Alexis Perry.
