LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Kelly Reeves led all players with 11 kills and a career-high five blocks, while junior Tabi Love added eight kills and four solo roofs, as the 11th-ranked Bruins completed a weekend sweep with a three-set victory over Loyola Marymount at the LMU Invitational on Saturday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-21, 25-18.

The Bruins improve to 3-0 with the win, while the Lions fall to 2-1.

UCLA had 13 blocks as a team and hit .278 for the match. Senior Lauren Van Orden posted 22 assists and seven digs, while senior Lainey Gera had 10 digs.

For just the second time in the first seven sets this season, the Bruins didn't score first. In fact, Loyola Marymount came out on fire with the first four points, but UCLA responded with three in a row on a Lion service error and a solo block and kill by Love. After an LMU sideout, the Bruins got the next four on a Lion attack error, a kill by Reeves, a bad set by LMU and an ace from Van Orden to take a 7-5 edge. The Lions took the lead back with three straight to make it 8-7, but the Bruins took command with a 10-0 run and the rout was on.

Although she didn't record an ace on this run after posting eight earlier in the day against Cal State Fullerton, it wasn't surprising that the 10-0 spurt came on the serve of junior Bojana Todorovic. Two kills by Reeves and two LMU errors gave the Bruins an 11-8 lead. UCLA then had three blocks in a row, first junior Rachael Kidder and sophomore Mariana Aquino, followed by Kidder and Reeves and Kidder and Aquino again. After an LMU attack error, Kidder and Aquino teamed up for a third block, and another LMU error made the score 17-8.

The Lions sided out to end the run, but another 3-0 spurt by UCLA on a Reeves kill, an LMU attack error and a Reeves solo block gave the Bruins a set-best lead of 11 at 20-9. The Lions mounted a 5-1 rally to cut their deficit to seven at 21-14, but the Bruins scored four of the final five points to win it 25-15. A service error, a kill by freshman Zoë Nightingale and a Kidder ace gave the Bruins set point. LMU staved off the first attempt, but a Love kill gave UCLA a 10-point win. Reeves had five kills and two blocks in the first, Kidder added four roofs and Nightingale posted three. UCLA had six blocks as a team and out-hit the Lions .125 to -.233.

In the second set, the Bruins went wire-to-wire for the sixth time in eight sets. It was all Love to start the set, as she had two solo blocks in a row to open things up and a kill, which was followed by an LMU attack error to make it 4-0. From that point on, both teams scored three in a row just once apiece, as the Bruins' lead stayed between two and six for the whole set. Kidder, Love, Nightingale and Reeves each had two kills in the second, with Love adding three blocks. The Bruins doubled their hitting percentage from the first set to .261, with the Lions also improving with a .235 clip.

Just like the first set, the Lions took an early in the third with three of the first four points. But UCLA battled back with five of the next seven to go ahead 6-5. Kidder, Reeves and Van Orden each had kills during the run, Nightingale had a solo block and Reeves and freshman Olivia Okoro teamed up for a combo roof. The Lions sided out to tie the score at six, but two LMU errors and a Kidder kill gave the Bruins a 9-6 lead, which they would not relinquish for the rest of the set.

Up 11-10, the Bruins received consecutive kills by Love, Okoro and Reeves to make it 14-10. UCLA's lead stayed between two and four until a late run gave the Bruins a 25-18 victory. Up 20-17, the Bruins got an LMU service error and kills by Love and Okoro to make it 23-17. After a Lion sideout, the Bruins earned match point after a bad LMU set and a Reeves kill gave them the seven-point win and a third-straight sweep. Love and Reeves each had four kills in the third. The Bruins out-hit the Lions .406 to .079.

The Bruins head to Hawai'i next week for the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic. UCLA will face a trio of Top 25 teams, playing #22 Long Beach State on Thursday, #21 Ohio State on Friday and 10th-ranked Hawai'i on Sunday. All matches start at 8 p.m. PT/5 p.m. HT.
