Swimmers Anna Poteete, Nicolette Teo and Lauren Hall and diver Marisa Samaniego are ready to compete in Columbus, OH for the 2008 NCAA Swim & Dive Championships. Competition begins on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
This is one of the smallest groups of competitors head coach Cyndi Gallagher has sent to the National Championships, but the group that is going has high expectations to succeed and put the Bruins on the board with some points.
"We're heading in hoping to pick up as many points as we can," said Gallagher. "This has been one of the fastest years collegiately that I can remember and because of that we are sending a small group to compete. I'm looking for Anna and Nicolette to score and hopefully compete in one of the top finals. Lauren is a freshman and new to Nationals so I'm just hoping for her to go out and swim a personal-best time.
"Marisa was an All-American last year and is definitely in the running for that honor again this year. After a strong showing on 3M at the Zone meet last weekend, Marisa is ready for a top finish at Nationals."
The swimmers will compete in three events during the meet.
Teo will be competing in the 100 and 200 breast and the 200 IM. She ranks 12th in the 100 breast (1:00.92), 18th in the 200 breast (2:13.11) and 48th in the 200 IM with a top time of 2:00.89.
Poteete will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. She heads into the meet ranked 25th in the 50 free (22.55), 27th in the 200 free (1:47.03) and 39th in the 100 free (49.43).
Hall heads to Columbus ranked 35th in the 400 IM (4:15.45) and will also swim the 200 IM (49th, 2:00.96) and 200 fly (29th, 1:59.21).
