BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Junior Donna Kerr and sophomore Aleah Macon each pitched complete-game shutouts, with Kerr striking out nine in game one and Macon fanning six in the nightcap, as the fifth-ranked Bruins swept a doubleheader at CSU Bakersfield on Sunday at the Roadrunner Softball Complex by scores of 8-0 in six innings and 7-0.

UCLA (19-4) recorded its 10th mercy-rule victory in the opener. The Bruins had 11 hits, scoring three times in the third and sixth and once apiece in the second and fourth. Junior Monica Harrison went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI and a homer, sophomore Samantha Camuso went 3-for-4 with two runs and a run batted in and freshman B.B. Bates added a pair of hits.

Junior Donna Kerr improved to 9-1 on the season with her second straight shutout, striking out nine and allowing only four hits and one walk in six innings. She had a pair of 1-2-3 innings in the second and fifth. Kerr fanned the side in the second and two in both the third and fourth frames.

The Bruins jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second. Camuso singled through the right side to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice by senior Julie Burney. After back-to-back walks to sophomore Dani Yudin and senior Kaila Shull loaded the bases, sophomore Marti Reed lifted a scoring fly ball to deep left to bring home Camuso and put the Bruins on the board.

UCLA added three more in the third. Harrison singled to right to start the inning and moved to third on a throwing error by Bakersfield (10-13) third baseman Kelli Bailey with junior GiOnna DiSalvatore at the plate. One out later, Camuso doubled to left to score Harrison and put the Bruins up 2-0. Burney followed with a single to center to bring in DiSalvatore to make it 3-0 and a sacrifice fly by Yudin plated Camuso to increase the lead to 4-0.

The Bruins made it 5-0 in the fourth on their third sacrifice fly in as many innings. Freshman Devon Lindvall walked to open the inning and came in to score three batters later on a sacrifice fly to left by DiSalvatore.

UCLA invoked the mercy rule with three in the sixth. Shull was hit to open the inning and Lindvall followed with a double to left. One out later, Harrison hit her second home run of the season to left to put the Bruins on top 8-0.

After four scoreless innings to open the second game, the Bruins broke through in the run and hit columns on one swing of the bat in the top of the fifth. Senior Megan Langenfeld started with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Camuso. Burney followed by hammering a 3-2 pitch out to straightaway center field for her seventh homer of the season to put the Bruins up 2-0. One out later, junior Amy Crawford tripled to right-center and came around to score when the relay throw by second baseman Kristen Archuleta went into the Bruin dugout, increasing the lead to 3-0.

UCLA added another run in the sixth. With one out, sophomore Andrea Harrison, Langenfeld and Camuso strung together consecutive singles to put the Bruins up 4-0.

The Bruins broke it open with three in the seventh. Bates reached on a leadoff double and scored from third one batter later on a wild pitch. After DiSalvatore got on via a walk, Andrea Harrison hit her third home run of the season to right-center to make it 7-0.

UCLA had nine hits, with Bates, Langenfeld and Andrea Harrison recording two-hit games. Sophomore Aleah Macon (6-1) picked up the win, striking out six and giving up just two hits and three walks in seven innings. She retired the side in order in the first, fifth and seventh innings, fanning a pair in the second.

The Bruins are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to San Luis Obispo for a doubleheader against Cal Poly beginning at 1 p.m. Gametracker will be available at UCLABruins.com.
