Bruin Women Have Strong First Day At New Mexico Classic

The women's track and field day had a strong first day of competition in Albuquerque at the New Mexico Classic as two season-bests and one lifetime-best were achieved.

Yasmin Woodruff was fourth in the 200m with a season-best run of 24.79, while Nijah Nelms was 16th, also with a season-best time (25.43).

In the high jump, Alexis Walker was third overall with a clearance of 5-8. Mariah Gibson was ninth with an indoor lifetime-best clearance of 5-6. Kimmie Conner was 19th (5-00.25).

In the top section of the pole vault, 2010 graduate Tori Pena won with a clearance of 14-1.25, while current Bruins Tori Anthony and Allison Koressel tied for seventh with equal clearances of 12-9.50. Liz Goodrich finished 11th overall (11-9.75). In the open vault section, Haley Stauber was 10th (11-9.75). Tatum Souza tied for 18th in the long jump (16-11.25).

Competition continues on Saturday in Albuquerque.
