Los Angeles - The No. 18 UCLA baseball team fell to No. 12 Arizona, 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Freshman left-hander Gavin Brooks (3-5) recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts through 8.0 innings, allowing five runs (one earned) off six hits.

UCLA (24-18, 10-2 Pac-10) lost for just the fourth time in its last 20 games. Arizona (32-11, 10-5 Pac-10) snapped a season-high four-game losing streak. Bruin third baseman Jermaine Curtis led UCLA's offense, hitting 2-for-4 with one run. Second baseman Alden Carrithers posted a 2-for-5 effort with one run and one RBI.

With the Wildcats trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth, Arizona first baseman C.J. Ziegler belted a three-run home run to left on a 3-and-2 count with two outs. Ziegler finished the afternoon 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Wildcat right-hander Mike Colla allowed three runs (one earned) off nine hits in 5.2 innings, recording five strikeouts and three walks. Jason Stoffel (4-0) earned the victory in relief, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out four.

Arizona opened the scoring in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on a bases-loaded pass ball and a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Oliver Padre.

UCLA tied the contest, 2-2, on a fielding error by Ziegler in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and the bases loaded, left fielder Will Penniall's ground ball bounced under Ziegler, allowing third baseman Jermaine Curtis and second baseman Alden Carrithers to score.

The Bruins took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning. Catcher Ryan Babineau singled through the left side, and Curtis followed with a base-hit to right. Carrithers' base-hit up the middle scored Babineau from second base to give UCLA the 3-2 advantage.

UCLA returns to action Tuesday, May 1, at UC Irvine in a non-conference contest. First pitch between the Bruins and Anteaters is slated for 6 p.m.

Game Notes: Will Penniall's leaping catch against the left-field wall in the third inning prevented Arizona's Hunter Pace from recording his first home run of the season...Gavin Brooks' 11 strikeouts were the most by any Bruin pitcher this season - previously, Tyson Brummett struck out 10 hitters at Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 23)...Jermaine Curtis finished the weekend against Arizona hitting .500 (6-for-12) with six RBI and four runs scored.
