Abby Dahlkemper Named Pac-12 Defensive Player of Week

Oct. 9, 2012

UCLA sophomore defender Abby Dahlkemper (Menlo Park, Calif.) was named the Pac-12 Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for October 1-7.

Dahlkemper, who is on the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List, anchored a UCLA defense that allowed one goal in victories over Oregon and Oregon State last week. She and the Bruins limited Oregon to just five total shots on Friday, only one of which came in the second half, as UCLA posted its eighth shutout in 13 games this season. Against Oregon State, Dahlkemper played strong defense to keep the Beavers at bay, helping UCLA to a 4-1 victory in Corvallis. The Bruins own a Conference-leading 0.37 goals against average this season.

This is Dahlkemper's second Pac-12 Player of the Week accolade this season and UCLA's 33rd all-time Player of the Week.

The Bruins return to action on Friday at Washington at 7pm.

Also Nominated: Emily Kruger, CAL; Kristen Parr, ORE; Nicole Bakke, ORE; Megan Miller, OSU; Mariah Nogueira, STAN; Taylor Smith, UCLA; Falon Miller, WASH; Lindsey Bos, WASH, Zoe Jeffers, WSU; Ariana Byrd, WSU.
