SENDAI, Japan - Former Bruin Natasha Watley had a great weekend at the Japan Cup (July 31-Aug. 2), going 5-for-11 with three runs scored, three RBI and two stolen bases to help Team USA to the gold medal.
In the first game against Australia on Friday, Watley went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. She had an RBI double in the second and a two-run single in the fifth in the United States' 11-3, five-inning victory.
On Saturday, Watley went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 10-2, five-inning win over Chinese Taipei. After resting during Saturday's second game against Japan, Watley returned to the diamond on Sunday in the championship against the host nation. She went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, scoring what proved to be the game-winning run in the first inning, as the U.S. claimed a 2-0 victory.
Watley concludes her summer tour with Team USA with gold medals from the Canada Cup, KFC World Cup of Softball and Japan Cup, going 22-0 in the three events.
Another group of Team USA members, which includes three players with UCLA ties (Andrea Duran, Megan Langenfeld, Katie Schroeder), is currently playing at the Pan American Qualifier in Maracay, Venezuela. To follow Team USA in Venezuela, click here.
