Samaniego Earns All-America Honorable Mention Honors On Three-Meter Springboard

Senior diver Marisa Samaniego capped off her Bruin career with an All-American performance on three-meter at the 2009 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in College Station, TX on Friday to lead the Bruins.

Samaniego was ninth after the prelim/quarterfinal rounds and just under one point shy of the championship final. In the console final, the senior finished 16th with a score of 291.10 to earn All-America Honorable Mention accolades.

With today's performance, Samaniego ends her career as a Bruin with one NCAA Zone E Championship title on three-meter (2009), two All-American performances (2007, 6th on 1M/2009, 16th on 3M), one Pac-10 title on one-meter (2009) and the school record on one-meter. She was also the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 2006.

Senior Tess Schofield finished 35th on three-meter with a score of 225.30.

On Thursday, Samaniego competed on the one-meter springboard and finished 24th overall (262.70).

Also on Friday, senior Madeleine Stanton and sophomore Lauren Hall competed in swimming events. Stanton finished 35th in the 100 backstroke in a time of 53.73, while Hall placed 35th in the 400 IM (4:15.40).

On Saturday, competition concludes with Schofield on the tower event, Stanton in the 200 backstroke and Hall in the 200 breaststroke.
