WOODLAND, Calif. - Junior goalkeeper Chay Lapin earned MPSF Mikasa Co-Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced Monday. Lapin tied his career high with 15 saves in UCLA's 10-4 win over Long Beach State in an MPSF contest Saturday, Oct. 4.
Lapin shared the weekly honor with UC Santa Barbara sophomore Milos Golic.
A native of Long Beach, Calif., Lapin helped lead the Bruins to victory in their first MPSF game of the season. Lapin, who has logged 71 saves in all six matches this fall, lowered his season goals against average to 4.33. Long Beach State was held to more than five goals below their season average.
Last season, Lapin earned MPSF Mikasa Co-Player of the Week honors after having recorded 15 saves in a 9-5 victory over then-top-ranked USC (Oct. 28, 2007).
Lapin becomes the second Bruin to earn the weekly award this season. Senior Krsto Sbutega captured the weekly honor after totaling a career-high five goals in a 10-4 season-opening victory at UC Irvine (Sept. 13).
UCLA (5-1, 1-0 MPSF) continues its season Thursday, Oct. 9, hosting No. 6 Loyola Marymount. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
