The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team secured its 10th consecutive berth to the NCAA Championship with a runner-up finish at the NCAA West Regional at Stanford this weekend.
The Bruins' result also was their ninth straight podium finish at the regional and their sixth runner-up result this season.
UCLA posted a 54-hole team score of 885 (+33) and finished nine shots behind first-place Arizona 876 (+24). Texas and Alabama tied for third at 890 (+38), followed by Virginia in fifth place 894 (+42). Stanford placed sixth at 895 (+43), followed by San Jose state at 900 (+48) and Texas A&M was eighth at 903 (+51). The top eight teams from each of the three regional championships advance to the national championship tournament in two weeks.
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Stephanie Kono tied for 10th place at 220 (+7) after posting a final round score of 75 (+4). Junior Glory Yang tied for 12th at 221 (+8) following her score of 74 (+3) on Saturday. Freshman Tiffany Lua carded at 75 (+4) and tied for 20th at 223 (+10). Senior Sydnee Michaels had the Bruins' best round of the day, a two-over par 73 (+2) and tied for 27th at 224 (+11). Sophomore Brianna Do tied for 44th at 228 (+15) after a round of 76 (+5).
First-place honors were shared by Virginia's Callie Nelson and San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert who tied at 214 (+1).
