Zamarripa Earns Pac-12 Gymnastics Weekly Honors

Jan. 17, 2012

Redshirt junior Vanessa Zamarripa was awarded Pac-12 Special Performance of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 9-15 after scoring a perfect 10 on vault.

Zamarripa, a native of O'Fallon, IL, scored her fifth career perfect 10 vault to lead UCLA to a 196.675-192.500 dual meet victory at California. The 2010 NCAA vault champion had missed all of 2011 with a ruptured Achilles tendon and was competing for just the second time in over a year. Zamarripa's score led UCLA to season-best 49.575 vault total, which ranks No. 6 in UCLA history. Additionally, she won the uneven bars with a season-best 9.9 and recorded a score of 9.875 in an exhibition balance beam routine. With the 10.0 on vault, Zamarripa improves her 9.9+ scoring streak on vault to 11 consecutive meets, and she has scored 9.9 or better on vault in 22 of 27 career meets, with no score lower than 9.8. She has hit 47 consecutive routines in team competition.

The Special Performance of the Week nod is Zamarripa's sixth of her career; she won the award twice in 2010 and three times in 2009. Zamarripa also has five Conference Gymnast of the Week awards to her credit.
