LOS ANGELES - Two highly-touted UCLA baseball recruits have signed professional baseball contracts and will forego their collegiate eligibility. Jason Heyward, the 14th overall selection in the 2007 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves, and Ryan Dent, the 62nd overall pick in the draft by the Boston Red Sox, both reached agreements with their respective major league clubs this week.

Heyward and Dent were two of seven UCLA recruits selected in the 2007 MLB Draft - the five other incoming freshmen will enroll at UCLA and report to campus in September. The Braves announced the signing of Heyward, a power-hitting outfielder from McDonough, Ga., on Sunday.

The Red Sox announced the signing of Dent on Monday. Dent, a shortstop from Long Beach Wilson High School, was selected in the draft's supplemental first-round.

UCLA's five other recruits selected in the 2007 MLB Draft include right-handed pitcher Dan Klein (24th round, Baltimore), left-handed pitcher Rob Rasmussen (27th round, L.A. Dodgers), infielder Niko Gallego (37th round, Colorado), outfielder Brett Krill (46th round, Atlanta Braves) and infielder Brandon Lodge (46th round, L.A. Angels). These five incoming freshmen and six other recruits will enroll at UCLA and report to campus in September.
