May 30, 2012

Incoming freshman recruit Nirra Fields has been selected to the Parade Magazine Girls High School Basketball All-America team.

Fields, who will join coach Cori Close's squad in the fall, averaged 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists in her senior season at Santa Ana, CA Mater Dei High School. The 5-9 guard helped lead Mater Dei to its third straight CIF State Championship this past season. Fields scored 24 points (7-14 fg, 10-10 ft), grabbed 11 rebounds and recorded six assists in the Division I State title game win over Berkeley HS.

Fields, who is ranked as the nation's No. 11 player and No. 3 guard according to ESPN HS Girls Basketball, was named California's Gatorade Player of the Year. She scored 20 points for the West team in the McDonald's All-Star game in April.

UCLA has three previous Parade Magazine HS All-Americans on the current roster. Senior Markel Walker was selected to the 2009 team. Redshirt senior Jasmine Dixon and senior transfer Alyssia Brewer were picked in 2008.
