Junior Georgea Richards is primed to score at the 2007 Pac-10 Heptathlon Championships in Palo Alto as she stands in eighth-place after the first day of competition with a four-event score of 2,964 points. Washington State's Diana Pickler holds the lead with a score of 3,586 points.
Richards opened up the day in the 200m in a time of 25.82, picking up 813 points. It was the seventh-fastest time of the day. In the second event of the day, the 100m hurdles, Richards ran 14.56 for 901 points. That time was the sixth-fastest mark of the day.
In the high jump, she cleared a season-best 5-1.75 (701 points) to finish 12th overall in that event. In the final event of the day, the shot put, Richards threw just shy of her season-best with a mark of 33-9.50 (549 points), finishing 12th overall, again.
She ended the day with 2,964 points and will compete in the final three events - long jump, javelin and 800m, on Sunday.
